If you live in Dallas, you probably enjoy the warm summer nights filled with activity. The landscape in Texas ranges from swamps to deserts, changing as you move from east to west.  Even though many people still picture the desert when thinking about Texas, the site is so large that barely a tenth of the state is actually that sandy and dry.  It’s in the South, but with strong tastes from the Southwest, too.

The road Texas took to get where it is was long. When Europeans first arrived, Spain quickly laid claim to the area. Mexico was in charge until Texas became an independent republic.  About a decade later it became one of the United States of America. It was part of the Confederacy during the Civil War, a series of battles that led to serious economic troubles when the war was over. But thanks to one of Texas great icons–the American cowboy and the cattle industry–the economy recovered and even flourished.

People who were born and raised in Texas are proud to be Texan–and with great reason!  They have all the warmth and friendliness of southern hospitality, along with the strength and pride that comes from shared history.  People in Texas had to fight to get where they are today, and now Dallas is a center for Fortune 500 companies.  There are many company industries based in Texas, spanning from farming to rocket science.

The entirety of the United States is spoken of as a melting pot, but Texas really takes the cake in terms of mixing of cultures.  Having changes hands so many times since its birth, Texas has a healthy blend of many different cultures.  From the east you have Southern and European influences, and from the west you have leanings toward the frontier attitude.  But that’s not all–there is even a mix of Mexican and European influences that come from the southwest.  As a result, you get Tex-Mex food and a huge amount of cultural variance.  Everything is bigger in Texas because the enormous state needed that much land to fit in so many different kinds of people!

One of the benefits of living where you grew up is knowing exactly where you come from.  Most of Texas can be considered to be in the Bible Belt, which means that you get to live with large numbers of people who share the same ideas and values as you. So, if you're a Christian, single, and living in Dallas, you've come to the right place to find others like you.
