Why not take some time today to find out a little more about your city so you can have even more fun later?
Baltimore is known for its scientific leanings, with many jobs in the health and science industries. In fact, nearly a quarter of all the jobs in the Baltimore area are technology-driven jobs. Being such an old city, the architecture is vibrant with a mix of old and new. From the neoclassical Baltimore Basilica to the Sun Iron Building, anyone who loves to look at art loves looking at the different faces on the buildings of the city. Just before the 1800s began, many people saw Baltimore represented by its architecture, namely the brick rowhouses.
This part of Maryland enjoys easy access to Chesapeake Bay and is one of the lucky areas of the states to have relatively warm winters, compared to some other places. Nearly half of the state is covered in forests of oak and hickory. Annapolis is the world’s sailing capital, too, and Assateague Island, in the bay, is famous for Chincoteague ponies, made famous by Merguerite Henry’s book “Misty of Chincoteague”.
The warm weather is great for spending time outside, such as at the retro-style Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Some think it’s the prettiest ballpark in the world. In fact, Marylanders love baseball so much that they have museums and memorials to America’s pastime all over the state. Besides Oriole Park, there’s the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame, and the Jimmie Foxx Statue and Sudlersville Train Station Museum. This small state manages to have six minor league baseball teams (even Texas only has eight).
Maryland plays host to many famous figures, like Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, Jr., and Frank Baker. Without Francis Scott Key, a Maryland lawyer, America wouldn’t have a national anthem (well, it would, it just wouldn’t be as poetic, probably). Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass were both from Maryland. After they escaped from slavery in the 1800s, they then helped others do the same. Other famous moments include the nation’s first public railroad and the first successful manned balloon launch–which was completed by a 13 year-old boy!
Take your friends (and dates) out for a walk through the history that permeates your city. Everything is better when you know more about it. Isn’t it be fun to spend some time walking on the same streets as some of baseball’s greatest athletes? Share the experience and you won’t regret it. The city is full of people who are just waiting to meet you. So, if you're a Christian, single, and living in Baltimore, you've come to the right place to find others like you.
